388: What to Do When Your Team Confides in You

What should you do during those unexpected moments when your team members confide in you about their personal lives? Maybe it’s a closed-door conversation or a message that pops up after hours, and suddenly you’re hearing details you weren’t prepared for. It’s emotional and it’s sensitive, and while it’s truly a compliment to be trusted, it can also feel overwhelming to carry that extra weight alongside your leadership responsibilities.

In this episode, I’m sharing how I personally navigate these situations and some client stories. I’ll walk you through how to listen without taking on someone else’s burdens, protect confidentiality, and set healthy boundaries that keep you in your role as a leader, not a therapist or a best friend. I’ll help you find the balance between compassion and accountability, so you can support your team in meaningful ways without enabling underperformance or burning yourself out.

If you’ve ever found yourself unsure about the right way to respond when a team member opens up to you, this episode is for you.
